Located in the proximity of Zurich, the research centre employs approximately 60 scientists from all over the world with cross-disciplinary expertise. In the Electromechanics Integration Group we perform cutting-edge research, and look at various aspects of making the power system stronger, smarter and greener. We focus on the challenges and opportunities in enhancing grid flexibility and facilitating renewable energy proliferation. In this context, we offer an internship position which provides the opportunity of working on real-world projects in an international team of research scientists.
Responsibilities:
Extension of a MATLAB-based tool for systematic and comprehensive design and optimization of power electronic converters
Refinement of physical models and submodels, based both on public literature and own data
Implementation, thorough testing, and documentation of the models
Adaption of the architecture of the code as necessary to maintain clarity and facilitate easy maintenance
Optional further optimization of modulation strategies for isolated DC/DC converters
Optional further optimization of the tool, e.g., regarding computational speed
Optional improvement of a functionality to graphically render the designed components
Collaboration with an international team in research on power electronics
Your background:
Degree program (official enrollment is essential) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer sciences, or a or similar discipline (completion of at least six semesters)
Good MATLAB programming skills
Knowledge and experience in power electronic converter operation and modelling
Enthusiastic, self-motivated mindset and ability to work independently
Highly conscientious individual with keen sense of responsibility
Fluent command of English, written and spoken
Duration: 6 months with possibility to extend, starting date: upon agreement
