The Neuroscience Department within the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Basel, Switzerland, is looking for a motivated and innovative PhD-level Principal Scientist with demonstrated expertise in neuroscience/neuroimmunology.
Vision and Purpose of this role: The associate will provide strategic and broad team leadership throughout the different stages of drug discovery projects. They will be recognized as a strong team leader and/or an expert in her/his area.
This role will support our discovery efforts to identify, validate and pursue targets in the neuro/axonal/glia field to address the high medical needs in progression in Multiple Sclerosis (piMS) and other neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer\\\'s Disease, Parkinson\\\'s Disease and ALS.
The candidate will assume a hands-on role as part of a team focused on supporting drug discovery efforts from target identification through to the clinic. The candidate will lead a lab that develops and runs in vitro and in vivo assays to support the discovery and early development of pharmacological interventions modulating neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative processes involved in brain diseases with a focus on progression in multiple sclerosis (piMS).
You will have an established track record in publishing in high impact journals is desirable. Experience in leading drug discovery teams and in elucidating neuro/axonal/glia mechanisms in the pathology of brain disease are required.
You will have experience across diverse therapeutic modalities (small molecular weight, biological, gene therapies) is highly desirable. As an integral member of neuroscience drug discovery teams, the ideal candidate will design strategies to solve challenges, execute experiments, identify next steps, and discuss findings with the team. Excellent communication and teamwork skills will be critical to the success of the candidate in this position.
Your responsibilities will include:
Plan and execute experimental strategies to validate targets and initiate novel projects.
Perform lab work to drive cutting-edge science.
Supervise and develop scientific research associates.
Contribute to drug discovery projects within multidisciplinary teams.
Present novel ideas, results, and projects in a clear and scientifically balanced manner.
Closely work with multiple teams within Neuroscience and across NIBR departments.
Minimum requirements
What you will bring to the role:
Ph.D. with a minimum of 2-4 years postdoc experience and 2-4 years industry experience.
Strong neuroscience biology background and track record of scientific accomplishments.
A strong background in neuroscience and experience in neuroimmunology are essential.
Strong high-impact journal publishing record
Experimental expertise in neuro/axonal/glia biology.
Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
Established experience in leading and mentoring teams, leading projects and research areas
