\\n \\n 2 months with an estimated start date of 1 April 2025, with the possibility to extend to 3 monthsDuties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is located within the Support and Sharing Section (SSS) of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism to assist in the investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for the most serious crimes under International Law committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011 (IIIM). The legal intern will report to the P2 Associate Legal Officer assigned to the SSS. The SSS oversees, inter alia, support to national, regional and international courts and tribunals through the sharing of information and evidence. Fluency in French is required for this specific project, as it will cover an assessment of legislation and legal developments in several francophone countries. This can only be completed by a candidate who is fluent in French. The duration of the internship will range from a minimum of two months to a maximum of three months. The duties of the Legal Intern in SSS may include, but are not limited to: - Conducts legal research on a diverse range of assigned issues in domestic and international criminal law, human rights and public international law and other area(s) of specialization using multiple research sources and tools; - Assists in the monitoring of judicial proceedings and/or administrative developments relevant to the work of the IIIM, with a particular focus on criminal judicial proceedings regarding violations of international criminal law; - Maps legislative frameworks and/or developments that are relevant to the work of SSS. A IIIM internship is unpaid and full time. Core working hours for interns are Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 17:30 (40 hours). Overtime may be required to meet deadlines for specific projects. The internship is designed to be in-person.Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor\\\'s degree or equivalent). Interested candidates must be pursuing or have pursued their degree in areas related to this Job Opening - e.g. Law, international relations, human rights, political affairs or related area. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master\\\'s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor\\\'s, Master\\\'s or PH.D.
