Under the supervision of the Programme Manager - Youth and Peace, the intern will be required to perform a wide range of functions and responsibilities, primarily in support of the Foundation\\\'s Youth and Peace programme.
The Peace programme seeks to prevent the recurrence of conflict and make peace last through initiatives that promote dialogue and reconciliation and by exploring the nexus of violence with climate and gender equality. The Foundation promotes youth leadership and advocates for the participation of young people at the highest levels of decision-making. More specifically, it empowers young leaders to prevent violent extremism through its initiative.
Core tasks
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Research and writing
Conduct research and prepare background briefs on topics related to youth inclusion, violent extremism, environmental peacebuilding, and women and youth in armed conflicts.
Contribute to the production of concept notes for new projects, funding proposals and donor reports, as well as donor mapping and funding priorities.
Collate relevant news and opinion articles from media outlets and news services on countries we are currently monitoring (Weekly Digest).
Translate programmatic documents and texts from/to English and French.
Contribute to the review of events, analysis and outlook of possible future developments on countries with actual or potential crisis in support of the Foundation\\\'s work programmes.
Communication
Prepare programmatic monthly updates to be circulated with the KAF staff, as well as bi-annual updates to the Board.
Liaising with the communication team, monitor and feed the Youth and Peace web pages; turning programme content, updates and outputs into compelling communication material (newsletters, blog posts, articles and social media content).
Feed the Communications Team with programme updates and content.
Take care of the substantive preparation of online and offline events (drafting concept notes, talking point, etc.) of events focused on Youth and Peace.
General
Help with the organization and logistics of events and missions that the Executive Director and the Programme Team may undertake;
Take meeting and call notes and share the follow-up items with relevant staff members as instructed;
Perform other tasks as required by the Executive Director and the Programme Team.
Skills and competencies required
Excellent written and spoken English required. Advanced written and spoken French is desired.
A minimum of a first degree in peace studies, international relations, international law, journalism, political science, or a related field.
Strong interest in and knowledge of youth studies, peace and conflict, Prevention of Violent Extremism or international politics.
Excellent writing, research and organizational skills.
Ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner; good social media skills.
Sound judgment, discretion, resourcefulness and good interpersonal skills are prized attributes.
Ability to take initiative and work to deadlines.
Other conditions
Tripartite internship agreement between the university, the intern and the Foundation is required.
Starting date: Mid-October 2023 or to be agreed.
Based in Geneva, a valid work permit for Switzerland is required or the applicant needs to be Swiss or an EU national.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Master\\\'s programme.
The Foundation offers a stipend based on a monthly allowance of up to 2\\\'500 Swiss Francs per month for full-time work to assist with living expenses. The stipend is subject to Swiss/Geneva law on social charges and taxation.
