Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Background Information

IOM\\xe2\\x80\\x99s Donor Relations Division (DRD) seeks to strengthen and diversify IOM\\xe2\\x80\\x99s collaboration with donors and partners on IOM programmes and new strategic initiatives.

It provides guidance and tools to identify donor priorities and match them with ongoing and future IOM programmes. In doing so, DRD uses a range of complementary approaches, including bilateral consultations with traditional and non-traditional donors and the private sector, field-based assessments and briefings for representatives of the international community, development of resource mobilization strategies and coordination of IOM inputs to multilateral funding mechanisms.

In addition, DRD works to improve IOM\\xe2\\x80\\x99s accountability to its donors and is tasked with overseeing donor reporting compliance to ensure that the Organization fulfils its project reporting obligations.

Supervision

The Intern will work under the guidance and supervision of the Chief of DRD in cooperation with other colleagues of the Division and the Department.

Core Functions / Responsibilities: * Support the Reporting Officer with donor report reviews in coordination with relevantcolleagues in the Headquarters, Regional Office (RO) and Country Office (CO).
  • Support HQ, RO and CO colleagues by making recommendations on the logical structure, clarity, presentation, and evidence-based analysis of narrative donor reports to improve their quality in a results-based manner.
  • Assist with the management of DRD and IOM\\xe2\\x80\\x99s reporting tracking systems and knowledge management tools, using Excel and IOM\\xe2\\x80\\x99s project management system (PRIMA);
  • Compile DRD\\xe2\\x80\\x99s Weekly Digest, to be sent out to donors, with links to IOM\\xe2\\x80\\x99s newsletters, situation reports, etc., and conduct necessary research and liaison to support this.
  • Research various funding platforms and share targeted funding opportunities to IOM missions around the world.
  • Attend meetings/events as requested and take notes to be shared with others.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Training Components and Learning Elements
  • The Intern will gain experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the United Nations system.
  • Gain experience in organization, management, and international cooperation activities.
  • Gain a better understanding of IOM\\xe2\\x80\\x99s work, as an inter-governmental organization in the field of Migration, in particular as a projectized organization.
  • The Intern will acquire technical knowledge in results-based management, including the project life cycle, monitoring and evaluation, and donor reporting.
  • The intern will acquire experience in donor relations and resource mobilization, specifically donor visibility and accountability.
  • The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM staff, and in-person training provided by DRD.
  • The Intern will have the possibility to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters, RegionalOffices and IOM Missions.
Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education
  • University degree in Development Studies, International Affairs, Economics, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Law, Journalism, English-Literature or any related discipline.
Experience
  • Strong organizational skills, including practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently; and proven ability to produce quality work according to set deadlines;
  • Proven experience writing, reviewing, or editing reports or other project documents, is an advantage;
  • Experience with reporting, monitoring and/or evaluation is an advantage;
Skills
  • Strong analytical and writing skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to understand the Organization\\xe2\\x80\\x99s structure and areas of work is an advantage;
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds.
Languages

IOM\\xe2\\x80\\x99s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of any French language is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who: * have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOMprogrammes and activities;
  • are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
  • are sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
  • are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme(minimum Bachelor\\xe2\\x80\\x99s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months. e) are at least 20 years old.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances.
