Microcaps is an ETH Zurich spin-off founded in March 2019. Our unique technology allows us to produce highly precise and innovative microcapsules that empower materials to unlock new capabilities, all tailored to various markets from cosmetics to nutraceutical and pharma.
Today, Microcaps technology can be found in a cosmetic skin serum and a vegan caviar. As we progress, our aim is to expand our production capacity and introduce a visionary and sustainable water-based fine fragrance. To strengthen our team in Z\\xc3\\xbcrich-Schlieren we are recruiting a:
Formulation & Process Developer, 80-100%
Our microencapsulation technology platform opens doors to a wide range of applications and solutions across our core markets cosmetics, nutraceuticals and pharma. After successfully launching first products in cosmetics, Microcaps is striving to build up and scale its own production environment. As Formulation & Process Scientist you will be on the frontline of our development efforts, ranging from developing new capsule formulations and strengthening our capsule portfolio as well as optimizing the production process. Working with different capsule systems for customers and ensuring in Microcaps\\xe2\\x80\\x99 main segments; cosmetics, nutrition, and pharmaceuticals as well as well as driving projects from proof of concept to large scale production is the main task of the team.
Tasks
Develop creative and novel formulation solutions for customers considering technical aspects and customer desires using Microcaps\\xe2\\x80\\x99 emulsification systems
Co-develop and translate processes from lab to industrial scale and optimize them for higher efficiency, quality, sustainability as well as reducing cost
Design and conduct experiments to understand underlying chemical and physical principles in order to gain further process understanding
Work on internal research activities to advance our capsule portfolio using innovative and sustainable approaches
Plan and engage in projects and ensure a timely completion as well as authoring and reviewing technical documentation
You will maintain an effective communication within areas of responsibilities as well as supporting the team in contributing to a successful work environment
Requirements
An advanced degree (FH/Uni) in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related studies
You are excited to work hands-on and have experience in developing and manufacturing products in a laboratory environment including the safe handling of chemicals and equipment
You already have some experience in the area of chemical processes in an industrial environment and larger scales, ideally in cosmetics or nutrition
Preferably, you have some experience in the area of encapsulation or emulsions. Ideally in one of Microcaps\\xe2\\x80\\x99 three core sectors (cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, nutrition)
You excel in managing your projects with minimal supervision, initiative and following set goals in a thorough manner ensuring timely, qualitative and accurate work

You possess a valid work permit for Switzerland
Fluent in English (compulsory) and German (preferred)
