Work LocationHomebased consultancyExpected duration10 MonthsDuties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The UN Environment Management Group (EMG) is a UN system-wide coordination body on the environment, promoting system-wide policy coherence, synergy and collaborative and flexible approaches to environmental issues in the United Nations system. The EMG Nexus Dialogue Series contributes to a common understanding of the integrated Sustainable Development Goals and targets, as well as the requirements and opportunities which these bring to UN agencies in supporting the implementation of the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda in a coherent and collaborative manner. The Dialogues provide an occasion and a platform for UN entities and other stakeholders to meet to identify areas of mutual interest, discuss emerging environmental issues, expand the stakeholder base, generate high-level attention to the topics discussed and to better understand the transmission channels through which an action in one sector may impact the outcomes of another. The Dialogues may also serve as an opportunity for Member States to consider how integrated approaches could support collaboration among different governmental departments. The EMG Secretariat seeks to engage a consultant who will support the preparation and organization of the Dialogues. Guided by the EMG Secretariat and the Issue Management Group, the consultant will deliver the following outputs: \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Background documents such as concept notes, agendas, run sheets, briefings and speaking points \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Secured speakers and facilitators \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Secured participation in the Dialogues of stakeholders including but not limited to UN agencies, fellow coordinating bodies set up by the UN System, academia, industry partners, international NGOs and other intergovernmental processes; \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Communications materials (flyers, posters, presentations, Infographic etc) for website, social media and internal purpose. \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Outcome documents / summaries. Specific tasks and responsibilities: \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Identify partners and speakers for the Dialogues; \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Development of background documents, concept notes, fact and run sheets for panelists and presenters, agendas, briefs and speaking points; \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Assist in particular with the outreach and securing participation of stakeholders, including but not limited to UN agencies, academia, industry partners, international NGOs and other stakeholders; \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Develop communication materials (flyers, posters, presentations, Infographic etc) for website, social media and internal purposes. \\xe2\\x80\\xa2 Prepare the outcome documents of the Dialogues.Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced university degree in the area of sustainable development, international relations, environmental science or communication. In case of more experienced candidates in the relevant area, the academic requirements could be reduced. Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in global governance for sustainable development or environmental mainstreaming is required. Experience in planning and executing online multi-stakeholder events, conferences, or panels requiring complex logistical coordination is required. Experience working with or within international organizations such as the UN or other global institutions focused on sustainable development is desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a good understanding of the integrated nature of the SDGs, particularly the environmental, economic, and social dimensions and have the ability to navigate complex policy issues and facilitate conversations that bridge environmental issues with other sectors. The candidate should possess excellent organizational, inter-personal and writing skills.
