Position Purpose

In Business Development (BD), we are obsessed with helping make JTI\\\'s corporate strategy a reality. As a Business Development Director, you will be involved in every part of a typical BD project (in Combustibles & RRP), such as: acquisitions or divestitures of businesses, participation in privatizations, negotiations of joint ventures, manufacturing or license agreements with 3rd parties, assessment of new markets/products opportunities and various internal strategic priority projects. BD Directors are exposed to working across all functions, and regions. While you will report to a VP Business Development, you will have opportunities to work with every team member, have the opportunity to lead select business development projects and engage with JTI\\\'s senior management and third parties.

What will you do - Responsibilities:

Business Development Opportunities:
  • Provide financial, commercial and strategic analysis of various business development opportunities, which may include: taking responsibility for feasibility studies, valuations, due diligence, preparation of internal approval documents, developing term sheets, contracts and agreements, drafting business plans, negotiating with target management and recommending suitable offers
  • Opine and make decisions on complex analytical matters and build flexible and complex models independently, review and provide modelling guidance to the BD Managers
Business Development Projects:
  • Depending on the project, lead or participate in BD projects from inception through to implementation or dismissal. Effectively coordinate resources and ensure strong teamwork with other business functions such as finance, legal, treasury, regional and market management
  • Play a key role in the preparation of a Business Plan and a thorough post-transaction integration process: challenge internal partners and come up with appropriate plan assumptions through robust evidence, anticipate integration concerns
Business and JTI Understanding:
  • Proactively maintain acute awareness of government and competitor strategies, alerting senior management to potential economic advantages/penalties in quantified forms and alternative counterstrategies
  • Understand, challenge, link issues from key functions and suggest problem-solving solutions, demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Group\\\'s strategy and business priorities
People & relationship management:
  • Capitalize on relationship networks (external and internal) and continuously strive to increase own impact by facilitating support to the organization and creation of new business opportunities
  • Motivate and guide the professional development of the BD Managers under supervision on the respective projects

Who are we looking for - Requirements:

The BD team thrives by having a team with diverse experiences and we look for a highly motivated and curious individual to join our team. BD projects require great commercial knowledge, an understanding of how value is created, and knowing how to make ideas a reality. As such, you can move to BD from any function. However, the reality is you have to be comfortable and able to understand and interpret financials and key business drivers, given there is quite a lot of financial and valuation modeling involved. A good financial model is built by:
  • Understanding the commercial levers of a business proposition
  • Recognizing and accounting for consumer trends and the regulatory environment
  • Understanding or predicting competitor strategies
  • Understanding capital structure and investor sentiment
  • Wrapping that all together in the financial statements (P&L, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet) and applying relevant valuation methodologies
We are open to meet diverse talent in JTI. History has shown us that the most successful Directors come with 7-10 years of experience in JTI. External candidates bring relevant business experience, ideally built internationally within multinational FMCG companies in the business development or finance (or commercial role with finance exposure) functions, or in consultancy/investment banking with a focus on transaction / project management. However, you may have more, or less experience\\xe2\\x80\\xa6 we don\\\'t count the years\\xe2\\x80\\xa6 we simply seek exceptional ability and curiosity.

Education

University degree, ideally with further relevant professional qualifications or MBA

  • Excellent organization, project and time management skills, at ease dealing with challenges, imprecise data, unreliable sources of information and ever-changing, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening and negotiation skills
  • High level of curiosity and motivation
  • At ease with cross-functional communications with other departments
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken), knowledge of other languages is a plus.
